Immunovaccine IPO Top Life Sciences Story

Halifax, Nova Scotia; March 4, 2010 – Halifax vaccine company Immunovaccine Inc. won the award for the Good News Story for 2009 at a ceremony held last night.

Immunovaccine, which is starting Phase I clinical trials later this month with its cancer vaccine, was among seven nominees for the award which was the centre piece of a networking event hosted by BioNova, the province’s life sciences association.

BioNova CEO Marli MacNeil said the event and the award were created to celebrate the achievements of the local life sciences community.

“Life sciences innovators and entrepreneurs are going about their business of developing and commercializing top notch technology and products,” she said. “We wanted to capture the best of the best for the past year and showcase that for the community.”

In accepting the award for Immunovaccine, Brian Lowe, VP for business development said his company’s good news is the result of a talented and dedicated team.

“We are proud of our growth and how our stock has been doing since the IPO in October”, he said, noting that its value had doubled since then. He thanked Immunovaccine employees, the early investors, and government agencies for their support from the company’s inception in 2000.

Other finalists for the Good News award included Ascenta Heath for international news coverage of how its Omega-3 based products helped cure a rhinoceros at the Atlanta zoo and Origin BioMed, the Halifax based maker of over-the-counter pain relief products for the many awards and accolades it won in 2009. Former winners of the award include MedMira and BioMedica Diagnostics.
